Cambridge Residents' Concerns About Upzoning
As a candidate for Cambridge City Council, I have been engaging with residents through door-knocking and discussions about their concerns and desires.
Regarding housing, many residents have expressed support for multifamily zoning citywide, but with certain limitations. They envisioned residential-sized projects, such as quadplexes, rather than large-scale apartment buildings with limited oversight.
Most people have told me they supported multifamily zoning citywide but believed it would be limited to residential-sized projects, maybe quadplexes, not used to propose 80-plus-unit apartment buildings across the city with limited oversight.
I recently attended a forum hosted by A Better Cambridge, where 14 other candidates and I discussed the future of housing in Cambridge. The forum included a questionnaire and a discussion on potential changes, such as the February 10 upzoning.
