Home care agencies may be losing hundreds of workers due to Trump's immigration policies, according to advocates.
Anti-immigration policies are placing a significant burden on home care agencies, which rely heavily on foreign-born workers to deliver care, says LeadingAge, an advocate for nonprofit senior care providers.
“For a sector such as ours, losing valued caregivers as a result of current immigration policies is a profound blow: many of our members have shared with us examples of foreign-born workers’ dedication and commitment,”
said Amanda Mead, LeadingAge’s director of workforce policy. The immediate impact is a reduction in care and services, making it necessary for providers to make difficult decisions until replaced employees can be hired.
Amanda Mead told McKnight’s Home Care Daily Pulse that each lost employee must be replaced, but until then, providers face challenges.
