On Tuesday, October 14, flights at Kelowna and Victoria airports were delayed due to a hacking incident. The public address systems and screens were compromised, displaying pro-Hamas messages.
The incident occurred between 5 p.m. at both Kelowna International Airport (YLW) and Victoria International Airport (YYJ). According to a Reddit post, the unauthorized messaging lasted for about two minutes, with messages including "Free Palestine" and curses directed at the U.S.
"The YLW team has successfully removed the unauthorized messaging," said the airport in a press release. "It has also restored our flight information display screens and are continuing to work on restoring the PA system."
The City of Kelowna stated that the cyber security incident was limited to a cloud-based third-party software provider.
