Pro-Hamas Messages Disrupt Airports
On Tuesday, October 14, public address systems and screens at Kelowna and Victoria airports were hacked with pro-Hamas messages, causing flight delays.
The incident occurred between 5 p.m. at both Kelowna International Airport (YLW) and Victoria International Airport (YYJ), with unauthorized messaging seen and heard throughout the airports.
"The YLW team has successfully removed the unauthorized messaging... and are continuing to work on restoring the PA system."
- Pro-Hamas messages, including "Free Palestine" and cursing the U.S., were displayed for about two minutes.
- The City of Kelowna stated that the cyber security incident was limited to a cloud-based third-party software provider.
Airport authorities have restored flight information display screens and are working to restore the PA system.
