A business owner in West Alabama is facing charges of promoting prostitution after several massage parlors were raided by the West Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force.
Nine women, who were living and working at the businesses, are being interviewed with the help of Mandarin translators to determine if they are victims of human trafficking.
“We are trying to determine who is a victim of human trafficking, and who is not,”
said Task Force commander Capt. The workers are all adults who came to the U.S. from elsewhere, and investigators are working to determine their immigration status.
The investigation began after customers reported that employees had offered them sexual services and neighboring businesses expressed concerns to the Tuscaloosa Police Department.
