I am a week late to this discussion, having recently shared my experiences of being in Iraq 20 years ago with the brave men and women of Georgia's 48th Brigade Combat Team.
Last week marked National Newspaper Week, a celebration close to my heart. As a columnist, I have the privilege of sharing my thoughts with readers each week, thanks to the editors.
I have been doing this job for almost three decades, during which time I have formed lasting bonds with regular readers, despite never having met them in person. You, the readers, have been with me through both good and bad times.
You have chided me when I needed it, and if I ever wonder if the column is being read, an error of fact or an incorrect number will get me enough mail to know, yes, you do.
Author's summary: Celebrating National Newspaper Week and 30 years of column writing.
