False Citizenship Claims Fuel Anti-Immigration Rally

AAP FactCheck has debunked claims that almost a million migrants who arrived in Australia between 2022/23 and 2023/24 will soon be invited to become citizens.

The figures cited include mostly temporary migrants who are ineligible to apply for citizenship, with permanent visas granted at a much lower rate.

False claims about immigration have spread across social media platforms, including X and Facebook, to promote an upcoming anti-immigration march on October 19.

This is not the first instance of false claims being used to promote anti-immigration protests, with an earlier protest in August also being promoted with debunked claims.

AAP FactCheck has previously addressed these false claims, providing accurate information on immigration and citizenship.
