Pennsylvania Data Centers Face Opposition

Data centers in Pennsylvania are encountering community resistance due to concerns over their impact.

Proponents argue that these complexes generate significant tax revenue and create jobs. However, critics point to issues such as constant low-frequency noise, increased electric bills, and substantial water usage.

In Anthony Township, central Pennsylvania, a citizens group is advocating for municipal leaders to reject Talen Energy's application to rezone 1,300 acres near one of its power plants for industrial use, potentially for a data center.

To pick up that much land and build any kind of industry would be very detrimental to the whole rural atmosphere.

According to Taryne Williams, a spokesperson for Talen Energy, the zoning change would align with the classification of other Talen-owned land in the area.
