The family of Hollywood star Diane Keaton has revealed that the actor's cause of death was pneumonia.

Diane Keaton, known for her roles in The Godfather, Annie Hall, and Father Of The Bride, died on Saturday at the age of 79.

"The Keaton family are very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11,"

the family said in a statement to US media, adding that donations to a local food bank or an animal shelter would be a wonderful tribute to her memory.

Pneumonia is an inflammation of the lungs that can make people seriously ill, especially those in their 60s and older, and people with heart or lung conditions.
