World’s smallest 'bioprinter' is the size of a pill

World's Smallest 'Bioprinter' Developed

Researchers from the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) School of Engineering have created a pill-sized "ingestible bioprinter" to help patients heal from the inside.

The device uses magnets and an infrared laser to guide a capsule towards ulcers in the gastrointestinal tract, where it releases a living "bio-ink" to promote healthy cell repair.

The ingestible device could help patients heal from the inside.

The researchers demonstrated the ability to remotely guide the capsule, roughly the size of a chunky prescription pill, to target areas.
