Families moved out of Mile End tower block due to sewage water in lift shafts

Families Relocated from Mile End Tower Block Due to Sewage Issue

Families residing in a block of flats in Mile End were temporarily rehomed for nearly two weeks after a lift shaft became filled with sewage water.

The incident occurred at Angela Court in Burdett Road, where the sewage system breakdown led to lift shafts filling up with "wastewater" earlier this year.

Some families had to be rehomed "for near enough two weeks" while the lifts were fixed, according to Gulam Hussain, Tower Hamlets council's director of neighbourhoods and customer services.

Council officials have warned that significant investment will be needed to address the underlying cause of the issue.
