End consumerism—start a garden

End Consumerism, Start a Garden

As of October 17, 2025, in Midnight Erie, PA, a personal journey of gardening began three years ago with just a few tomato plants.

This journey has evolved into a cycle of learning about new plants, understanding how to grow them, and persevering through constant failure until success is achieved.

A lifelong fascination with the creation process started at a young age, with skills such as sewing, knitting, and baking, which continue to be developed as an adult.

During the pandemic, like many others, time was spent making bread and crocheting clothes, captivated by the creation process.

The hours dedicated to cooking, gardening, and making clothes have highlighted the significant time, effort, and money required to sustain life, and the substantial resources that are often carelessly discarded.

Author's summary: Gardening and self-sufficiency can reduce consumerism.
