Cross Country: 8 Local Runners Qualify for Individual State Championships
Regional meets took place across the state on Saturday, marking the beginning of the Michigan high school cross country postseason.
Although none of the local programs qualified as teams, eight individual runners from the area will continue their seasons for one more weekend.
The top three teams at each regional automatically qualify for the state finals, with teams requiring at least five runners to finish the race for team scoring.
- A fourth school may also qualify if its top four runners place inside the top 20 and at least eight schools place in the final team score standings.
- A minimum of seven individual qualifiers placed inside the top 15, not already part of a qualifying team, will also advance to the finals.
- If there are fewer than seven qualifiers within the top 15, additional qualifying runners up to a maximum of seven following 15th place will also advance.
Author's summary: Eight local runners qualify for state championships.
