Sault Area Hospital is experiencing capacity pressures, which are expected to worsen with the upcoming respiratory season.
According to SAH president and CEO Ila Watson, the hospital has consistently over 300 in-patients and a significant number of alternate level of care (ALC) patients.
We have consistently greater than 300 in-patients in our facility and we struggle currently with a considerable number of alternate level of care patients.
At the end of September, there were 79 ALC patients, with 49 waiting for long-term care placements and the rest requiring other care or destinations.
The hospital may need to use space that could impact non-urgent elective services to manage the capacity issue.
