Thousands of international students in Hungary may face tightened scholarship contracts due to a recent scandal at ELTE.
A lecture by Alexander Yakobson, a historian from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, was disrupted on October 16, prompting two ministers and the university rector to demand accountability.
The historian’s lecture series was titled “Diverzitás és demokrácia az izraeli társadalomban”
The incident began when students wearing keffiyehs shouted that the lecture was political propaganda, leading to a disturbance that could not be calmed by the lecturer, attendees, or security.
The lecture was eventually halted, with only two of the three sessions able to be attended online.
