Over 2,700 people have been denied Maltese citizenship in the past five years.
Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri revealed that 2,752 applications for Maltese citizenship via naturalisation were denied.
Of these, 756 were dependents, including children or family members who applied alongside primary applicants.
The Minister didn’t reveal the countries of origin or the length of time the applicants had been living in Malta.
PNG MP Graziella Attard Previ had sought transparency on citizenship refusals, tabling the question in a parliamentary session.
