Reversing Course: Spotsylvania Board of Supervisors Reduce Recommended Data Center Setbacks

The Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors and planning commission held a joint work session to discuss design standards for data centers on land zoned Industrial.

The board voted 4-3 to keep data centers 400 feet from residential property lines and several public spaces, including hospitals, daycares, parks, places of worship, and public and private schools.

Initially, the board agreed to advertise 1,000-foot setbacks, but two members had a change of heart, leading to the revised decision to advertise 300-foot vegetated buffers and 400-foot setbacks.

The supervisors did most of the talking during the joint work session, ultimately deciding on the reduced setbacks.

Author's summary: Spotsylvania Board reduces data center setbacks to 400 feet.
