US Climate Activist Sentenced to 18 Months in Prison

Timothy Martin, a climate activist, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for splashing paint on the display case of Edgar Degas's sculpture "La petite danseuse de quatorze ans" at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.

Martin, an architect from North Carolina, was found guilty of conspiracy and injuring government property over the 2023 protest action.

Timothy Martin and Joanna Smith, affiliates of Declare Emergency, smeared paint on the display case and base of the sculpture.

Martin's sentencing came after a federal jury found him guilty in April.
