How Art Week Tokyo is opening up routes into Japan’s contemporary art landscape

Art Week Tokyo: A Gateway to Japan's Contemporary Art

Now in its fourth edition, Art Week Tokyo promises comprehensive exhibitions, thoughtful symposiums, and global connections, according to Mami Kataoka, director of the Mori Art Museum.

A unique feature of Art Week Tokyo is its free bus service linking venues, facilitating navigation of the city's art landscape.

Following the art scenes in Seoul, London, and Paris, Asia's "art week" model is gaining momentum, with Singapore in January, Hong Kong in March, Seoul in September, and Taipei's inaugural event in October.

This model consolidates museums, biennials, and art fairs, creating powerful synergy and deepening reciprocal relationships.

By having museums open major shows and host large-scale events alongside fairs, and synchronising biennial openings, these three magnetic forces are creating a unique experience.

Author's summary: Art Week Tokyo connects global art professionals and collectors to Japan's contemporary art scene.
