Boston College Linebacker Nominated for Courage Award After Cancer Triumph
The Boston College Eagles have only one win this season, but their greatest triumph may not come from the football field. Linebacker Bryce Steele has a significant personal victory to celebrate.
Steele, who missed the entire 2024 season fighting cancer, has been nominated for the 2025 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. This award honors players who demonstrate exceptional courage on or off the field.

Steele's Fight Against Cancer
Steele’s battle with cancer began well before 2024. In 2019, he was diagnosed with thymoma, a rare cancer affecting the thymus gland in the upper chest. He underwent surgery to remove a 13-centimeter tumor located near his heart.
“Despite his first run with cancer coming during his recruitment period, Steele kept the diagnosis private. He was able to beat that cancer prior to joining the Boston College football program.”
