Former Miss USA Noelia Voigt voiced her solidarity with Miss Mexico Fátima Bosch after a Miss Universe executive disrespected Bosch, leading to a fallout.
During a Miss Universe event, executive Nawat Itsaragrisil insulted Bosch, 25, calling her a "dumb head," a term implying foolishness or emptiness. He added, “You must listen to me first, then argue with me.” This disrespect prompted Bosch and other contestants to walk out in protest.
“When I woke up yesterday morning and saw the video circulating across the internet showing what happened, I was shocked, disgusted, disappointed and genuinely horrified,” Noelia Voigt wrote on Instagram.
Voigt, 26, expressed full support for the women who stood up against the disrespect. She related to their experience, sharing her own struggles with having her voice dismissed during her tenure as Miss USA 2023.
“As someone who served as Miss USA 2023 and later made the decision to step away from my title, I understand what it feels like when your voice is dismissed and your dignity is demeaned.”
Following the backlash, Itsaragrisil apologized, saying he did not intend to hurt anyone and acknowledged the pressures he faces:
“I think you must understand the pressure is a lot, I am a human sometimes. By the way, I have not intend[ed] to hurt anyone.”
In May 2024, Voigt stepped down from her Miss USA title citing mental health reasons.
