We’re back to Green on the Threat Tracker as winds have calmed, with only passing lake rain showers this morning. Rain chances should end by afternoon, leading to partly to mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid-40s.
Winds are currently calm, with the strongest gusts around 20 MPH. However, wind will increase tomorrow ahead of a new front, bringing gusts up to 30 MPH along with rain in the afternoon and evening.
Saturday will be cool and cloudy, featuring calmer winds. On Sunday, a low pressure system will pass nearby, bringing rain locally and snow across the lake region. Sunday night marks our first chance for snow as cold air wraps around the system, especially in higher elevations.
Monday introduces a surge of cold Canadian air deep into the US, with possible lake-effect snow flurries as winds shift northerly. Tuesday offers a better shot at lake effect snow from Lake Ontario with winds coming from the northwest. While significant snow accumulations are unlikely, timing and amounts will be clearer in the coming days.
Temperatures will remain cold, not rising above the 30s on Monday or Tuesday.
A clipper system moves through Wednesday, bringing some rain and breezy winds.
“Make sure to tune back in for updates on that.”
Author’s summary: A cool and mostly dry day precedes the first chance of snow next week, with cold Canadian air and lake effect snow possible early in the week.
