The Miss Universe 2025 competition is underway in Thailand, attracting 122 contestants worldwide vying for the crown. However, the event has been overshadowed by conflict and emotional moments.
Tensions rose on Tuesday during a pre-pageant event when Miss Universe Mexico, Fatima Bosch, and Miss Universe Thailand director Nawat Itsaragrisil clashed. The confrontation unfolded live on social media, with Itsaragrisil criticizing Bosch for allegedly refusing to promote Thailand, the host country.
After Bosch tried to explain her position, she left the venue amid escalating tension. Following her, several other contestants, including reigning Miss Universe Denmark, Victoria Theilvig, also exited the event.
“If anyone wants to continue the contest, sit down,” Itsaragrisil warned, threatening disqualification for those backing Bosch.
In another social media video, Theilvig appeared visibly upset while addressing supporters outside the venue.
“We have respect for everyone, but this is not how things should be handled,” she said. “To trash another girl is beyond disrespectful.”
The controversy has sparked strong reactions from fans of the pageant, which is celebrating its 74th edition this year.
The event includes participants from diverse regions, including the Middle East, with contestants from Palestine to the UAE taking part.
