EX-HURRICANE Melissa caused significant disturbances across Barcelona’s public transportation this morning after an orange weather warning for torrential rain was announced.
At least 54 flights were cancelled at Barcelona’s El-Prat airport. Outbound flights faced an average delay of 68 minutes, while arrivals landed nearly an hour late on average, according to Flightradar24.
"The bad weather and strong storms affected operations and forced safety measures to be put in place at the airport," said ENAIRE, Spain’s air navigation manager.
AENA, the airport operator, has advised passengers to verify flight statuses with their airlines before traveling.
Barcelona’s Rodalies rail network also experienced major disruptions due to the severe weather.
These transport challenges follow warnings and responses to the remnants of EX-HURRICANE Melissa, emphasizing the ongoing impact of severe weather events on regional infrastructure.
