Doncic's Lakers Edge Wembanyama's Spurs; Blazers Hand Thunder First Loss

Luka Doncic triumphed over Victor Wembanyama as the Los Angeles Lakers narrowly defeated the San Antonio Spurs 118–116 on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Portland Trail Blazers rallied to give the defending NBA champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, their first loss of the season.

Doncic Leads Lakers to Chaotic Win

In their first matchup of the season, Slovenian star Doncic delivered a brilliant performance with 35 points, nine rebounds, and 13 assists. He also contributed five steals and two blocks, helping Los Angeles improve to 7–2 while awaiting the return of injured LeBron James.

“They only lost one (other) game, so to come back, being with (Austin Reaves) and LeBron out, it's unbelievable,” said Doncic.

Wembanyama Battles Foul Trouble

Victor Wembanyama led San Antonio with 19 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Stephon Castle and Jeremy Sochan each added 16 points as seven Spurs players scored in double figures. However, Wembanyama struggled with fouls and was disqualified with 1:40 left, when the Spurs trailed 113–112.

Despite gaining a final possession after a Lakers inbounds error with 1.2 seconds remaining, San Antonio failed to convert, sealing the 118–116 victory for Los Angeles.
