Dakota Fanning revealed a special birthday tradition involving Tom Cruise, who has been gifting her shoes every year for two decades. The tradition began when they worked together on the 2005 alien invasion film War of the Worlds, where Fanning played Cruise’s daughter.
Fanning explained that Cruise started this gift practice on her 12th birthday, knowing her excitement about finally fitting into adult-sized shoes. She said the Mission: Impossible and Top Gun: Maverick star sent her a pair of new shoes that day and has kept up the custom every year since.
“He sends me beautiful shoes, it’s a tradition that started, I think, on my 12th birthday.”
“I loved shoes, and I just had started fitting into adult-sized shoes, and so I was really excited about it. And so for that birthday he gave me shoes, and he’s kept the tradition going for 20 years.”
During an interview on the Today show, host Craig Melvin inquired whether the shoes were designer brands like Louis Vuitton or Prada. Fanning kept it brief, responding simply, “nice.”
This long-standing gesture highlights the enduring friendship and thoughtful connection between Dakota Fanning and Tom Cruise.
