Canon has unveiled the new EOS R6 Mark III, a camera that combines many features of the Canon EOS C50 with a design optimized for still photography. Despite its focus on photography, the EOS R6 Mark III offers strong video capabilities.
The EOS R6 Mark III features the same 32MP 3:2 full-frame sensor found in the EOS C50, upgrading from the 24.2 megapixel CMOS sensor used in the previous R6 Mark II. Unlike Canon’s higher-end models such as the EOS C80 and C400, the R6 Mark III does not employ a Dual Gain Output (DGO) or a back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor.
This is notable since many manufacturers prefer back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensors to enhance autofocus performance.
This camera is powered by the DIGIC DV 7 processor, the same as used in Canon’s C50, C80, C400, C500 Mark II, and C300 Mark III models, ensuring robust processing capabilities.
“It’s interesting to see that the R6 Mark III and C50 don’t feature a Back Illuminated Stacked sensor like the C80 and C400, and R3. One of the reasons a lot of companies are now utilizing back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensors is that they allow for better AF performance.”
The EOS R6 Mark III is the successor to the R6 Mark II, which was launched over three years ago, following the original R6 introduced in July 2020.
The Canon EOS R6 Mark III merges high-resolution imaging and advanced video features in a compact design, appealing to photographers who also require versatile video functionality.
