On Tuesday night, "The Daily Show" host Jordan Klepper ridiculed Andrew Cuomo’s unusual final attempt to defeat New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, involving Cuomo's 1996 Ford Bronco, which closely resembles O.J. Simpson’s notorious car.
Klepper described Cuomo as “the only man with a chance of perhaps beating Mamdani,” adding that Cuomo is “most likely to tell the Statue of Liberty she has a hell of an ass.” Although Cuomo lost the primary to Mamdani, he decided to run as an independent.
Klepper contrasted Mamdani’s active presence in the community with Cuomo’s disconnected approach, saying, “Mamdani is out there in da clubs, I assume, Cuomo’s final campaign pitch is da serious and da policy-driven.”
The show presented a clip titled “The Good Luck Truck” featuring Cuomo explaining his belief that his old Ford Bronco, a “white, mid-’90s” model, would help him win the election.
“An oldie, but it is a goodie,” said Cuomo about his 1996 Ford Bronco, highlighting it as a symbol of his campaign.
Klepper, clearly amused, questioned:
“Isn’t that O.J.’s car?”
The laughter from the audience underscored the oddity of using a vehicle famously linked to a high-profile murder case as a campaign symbol.
Cuomo’s attempt to leverage a Ford Bronco resembling O.J. Simpson’s car in his campaign was mocked as a strange and ineffective strategy to challenge the popular candidate Zohran Mamdani.
