The highly anticipated match between Jake Paul and Gervonta “Tank” Davis was scheduled for November 14 in Miami. Instead, the fight has been canceled following new reports of allegations against Davis.
Reports stated that Davis was accused of attacking a woman at Tootsie’s Cabaret, a club in Miami Gardens. According to a complaint with Miami-Dade County, the incident took place on October 27 and involved Davis allegedly choking and striking a VIP cocktail waitress.
Paul reacted by quickly announcing the cancellation of the fight. In a public statement, he described Davis as:
a walking human piece of garbage
and said he did not want to:
give a woman abuser a platform
Claressa Shields, a champion boxer, publicly challenged Paul’s justification for the cancellation, noting that Davis’ legal troubles had long been known in the boxing world.
I have a few things to say about that
Shields expressed skepticism over Paul’s newly claimed principled stance, considering the widely publicized nature of Davis’ past legal issues.
Paul’s position drew mixed reactions, as many in the community questioned why he would choose to address Davis’ history now, instead of earlier.
Shields doubts Paul’s ethical reasoning for calling off the Davis fight, arguing Davis’ history was already widely known and questioning the timing of Paul’s response.
