Kylie launched the single during an appearance on The Scott Mills Show on Radio 2. She shared that "Xmas" was recorded during a break in her Tension tour, notably in the middle of summer (June), which was unconventional for a Christmas song.
“Because I was on the road, we didn’t get to go so Christmassy. I had… You know I think it was from a CBeebies story, Christmas story, I did and they gave me a… like a Christmas stocking I think. I thought, I have got to take something Christmassy and I think that’s it. That’s the one thing that you may see… If there is any visuals of the recording that’s the… That’s it. We didn’t get to do fairy lights. We didn’t get to do paper chains. But in spirit we were very Christmassy.”
