Almost 2,000 people in the US are reported with Cyclospora infections. Michigan accounts for nearly 1,000 of these, making it the hardest-hit state so far.
Officials suspect the parasite came from fresh produce. They are testing greens, herbs as well as berries. Shoppers are urged to wash all produce thoroughly. Cooking food helps too. The outbreak continues to spread quickly so checks will ramp up.
